History
The Strathcona congregation began in January 2005 among people who were residents and friends of those in Downtown Eastside (DTES) and Strathcona area. Many of us were initially connected to a community called Jacob’s Well. We were blessed to plant a Vineyard congregation in the Downtown Eastside by our Vineyard family in the Lower Mainland.
We began by meeting in a friends’ living room every other Sunday for the first 10 months. By the end of 2005 we had relocated to Strathcona Community Centre for our “Sunday worship gatherings” and in 2018 moved to 431 Princess Street (Strathcona Church).
From our very beginnings we were purposeful about connecting outside of our Sunday gatherings to grow in love for one another and to reach out to those in our neighbourhood. We intentionally gather at different times throughout the week for coffee, times of prayer, small groups, celebrations, birthdays, discipleship, fun, laughter, community dinners, bible studies and times of learning.
