About Us:

We are family of faith made up of people from all walks of life and backgrounds, with most of us local residents of the downtown eastside/strathcona neighborhoods. On any given Sunday you can expect to find children, students, those with mental and physical disabilities, a variety of ethnicities, artists, introverts, extroverts,  musicians etc.

We believe that everyone has a place in the body of Christ and has equal value.

In the Vineyard we having a saying that  ‘everyone gets to play‘,  it is born out of a belief that Jesus invited ALL His followers to be participants in advancing His Kingdom good news.  With this in mind we value diversity. We want to be people who are not all from the same economic background or experience. We want to be people who learn from one another regardless of our educational background. We want to be people who are known for being generous, even if we  don’t have that much to share.

We have been inspired and influenced by the life of the early church and their witness as found in Acts 4:32-35.  We  are therefore passionate about empowering those who are usually discarded to the margins of society because we believe that everyone has been invited to become full participants in the church and the Kingdom of God. We have seen people who are used to being treated as the recipients of charity  become faithful servers and leaders, growing in prayer and love for Jesus.

What you can expect on any given Sunday:

We meet at Strathcona Community Centre every Sunday at 10:30am for refreshments with the worship service starting at 11am (approximately).

At Strathcona Vineyard we alternate the rhythm of our Sunday Gatherings. Every other Sunday, after our simple meal together, we follow a simple liturgy that often includes contemporary sung worship, scripture readings, a short teaching or reflection, Communion and prayer together.  On the alternate Sundays we follow our meal with Prayers of the people, communion and prayers for one another when needed.

During our worship, teaching and prayers we have a Kids Church for children 3-12, staffed by volunteers who have had criminal record checks. Parents of children 0-3 are welcome to join the children in the Kids Church.

What you can expect during the week:

We meet at different times throughout the week for coffee, times of prayer, celebrations, birthdays, discipleship, fun, laughter, bible studies and times of learning.  Please check the upcoming events section for information on small groups and community events.

We would love to have you visit us any time and if you would like more information please contact us at info@strathconavineyard.com

Our Story:

The Strathcona congregation began in January 2005 among people who were residents and friends of those in Downtown Eastside/Strathcona, many of whom were connected to Jacob’s Well (jacobswell.ca) and North Langley Vineyard.

We started by meeting in a friends’ Living room every other Sunday for the first 10 months. By the end of 2005 we relocated to Strathcona Community Centre for  for our “worship gatherings” where we have remained.

The church was initially led by Joyce Rees (joycerees.ca) and in 2007  Dawn Humphreys became the Pastor.

The Vineyard:

The Vineyard is a movement distinctively centered in a renewed understanding of the centrality of the Kingdom of God in biblical thought. We view the Kingdom of God as the overarching and integrated theme of the Bible.

We are committed to the proclamation of the Kingdom of God and to bearing witness to the deeds of the Kingdom through healing (physical, emotional, and social), doing justice, and praying for deliverance for those held captive by evil. Since the Kingdom of God is the future reign of God breaking into the present through the life and ministry of Jesus, we are a forward-leaning movement emphasizing the ever-reforming nature of the church engaging the world in love.
